Tennis Day
Tennis Day is brand new program offered by Raw Tennis & The North Bay Tennis Centre in partnership with   Nipissing University’s BPHE Program (Bachelor of Physical & Health Education).

Every school that participates will have the advantage of offering instruction and play opportunity for a sport rarely touched in the education system though very popular amongst athletes of all ages.

For selected Fridays in October & November participating schools can expect physical and health education students to arrive and set up portable Street Tennis nets where activities will take place.

All classes from JK – Grade 6 will be invited to take part at their convenience throughout the day in addition to organized sessions during recess if desired.

This is a tremendous opportunity for all elementary schools to get active and for the Tennis Day Leaders to gain real life experience in their field of study.

"Integrating Tennis in Elementary School Physical Education"
Activities

JK/SK
Participants will learn tennis specific terminology and scoring by word association and performance of basic skills. An “Active Start” approach will be taken to engage participants in physical activity that is transferable to tennis and will improve physical literacy later in their athletic development.

Grade 1-6
Participants will be introduced to tennis by being challenged to perform “ball control skills”. This includes holding, rolling, bouncing, dribbling, and directing the ball using a racquet.

Tennis Day Leaders will then organize various developmental games and activities that will engage the participants in ball & racquet coordination.

Ultimately participants will be playing an adapted version of tennis called Street Tennis:
  • Rally Point
  • Underhand Serves Only
  • Unlimited Bounces & Hits
